Why are we sharing this update?
At New Jerusalem Church, we care deeply about the health, safety and well-being of our Members and Friends. We are writing to update you on the action we will be taking following the new guidance issued on 23rd March 2020 by the UK Government announcing new restrictions to delay the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Government have now announced that you should only leave home for:
- shopping for basic necessities (as infrequently as possible);
- one form of exercise a day (by yourself or with members of your household);
- any medical need / care for vulnerable person;
- travelling to and from work, only if absolutely necessary.
There should be no public gatherings of more than 2 people.
The measures are set to be in place for the next 3 weeks at which point they will be reviewed.
For more information about the new measures, please click here.
In order to operate in line with these restrictions, we will be making the following changes to our service and activity schedule until further notice.
The following information will help to update you on how we will gather online and support you during this time.
Health and Well-Being
We recognise that this is an uncertain time for many people and that you yourself may be concerned about the impact this could have on your health. Firstly, as people of faith, our hope and trust should remain in God, remembering that we are healed by His stripes (Isaiah 53:5). Please also be assured that God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
We know that being in the world means we are subject to the challenges of being human and therefore, whilst our hope remains in Christ, we want to assure you that during this time we are here to support you in any way we possibly can.
Therefore, if want to talk to someone about concerns or challenges during this time, please call the office on 0121 359 0272, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the out of hours number 07774 513 381.
Additionally, we encourage you to stay connected to each other and offer support to those who may experience health challenges or have to self-isolate during this time.
We encourage all Members and Friends to adhere to health advice issued by
- a cough
- a high temperature
- shortness of breath
But these symptoms do not necessarily mean you have the illness. The symptoms are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, such as cold and flu. If you do experience any of these symptoms and feel unwell, you can use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service. There are general principles you can follow to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including:
- washing your hands more often – with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use a hand sanitiser when you get home or into work, when you blow your nose, sneeze or cough, eat or handle food
- avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
- avoid close contact with people who have symptoms
- cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in a bin and wash your hands
- clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces in the home.
